Cleaning The Glass On The Outside Of Your House
Before you begin washing, check the face of the glass to see if there are any pieces of sand or dirt on the glass that will cause the glass to be scratched during washing. If so, use a hose to remove the particles of sand or dirt off the surface of the glass.
Caution: Before you use a hose on any glass systems, do not use a great amount of water pressure. Tilt the hose downward on an angle .
Caution: Do Not use a pressure cleaner to rinse glass systems. You could hurt the gaskets and the caulking used to keep the water from leaking through these windows and doors. Now that you have hosed off the sand or dirt, you should be able to clean the glass without damaging it.
How To Get Rid Of Stains On Glass
Glass can get stained from a single or combination of different substances. Almost all stains on glass are water stains, like sprinkler water, rain water, water stains on glass table tops from glasses, shower water on a tub/shower enclosure, etc.
These blemishes usually can't be removed by ordinary cleansers, so I'm going to tell you how you can easily remove most stains in glass and it's only going to cost you about $1.70. When you go to the department store look in the section where they sell cleaning agents and pick up a can of BarKeepers Friend. This cleaning agent is amazing.
I've been to customers homes to check out the blemishes on their glass and they've explained to me that they used everything to remove the stains, but have not had any luck. So I would break out the BarKeepers Friend and get rid of the stain immediately. I'm not saying that this cleanser will remove every stain that is on glass, but for $1.70 a can it can't hurt to try it.
Instructions On How To Use Bar Keepers Friend On Glass
Just to let you know is that this cleaner is a light abrasive polishing compound. If you rub the area for an extended period of time or you rub the surface of the glass too hard, you could etch the glass. Don't worry though, it does take some effort to scratch the glass with this stuff. It shouldn't take too much pressure or too long of a period of time to remove a stain from the glass.
What you want to do is grab a paper towel or wash cloth and fold it up to about a 2" - 3" square. Wet the paper towel with water and gently ring it out, just so that it is not dripping wet.
Then your going to sprinkle some Bar Keepers Friend on the paper towel and pat the cleanser down with your finger until the cleanser is moist. Take the rag with the cleanser and apply it to the stain and begin rubbing with a firm amount of pressure, either by moving the wash cloth up and down, side to side or in a circular motion for about 5 - 10 times.
Caution: You do not want to press too hard on the paper towel. Then clean the area and see if the stain has disappeared, if not, try it again. Keep an eye on the part of the glass that you are polishing, looking out for possible scratch marks from the cleanser.
Areas Of Use
I use this cleaning agent on my car windows to combat water stains and bugs. It makes your windows look new again. It performs well on tub/shower enclosure glass and metal as well. This stuff will polish a lot of other surfaces as well.
One of the other things I like to work with is RainX. Once you clean the glass, use RainX to help keep your glass from staining again. Water just rolls off the face of the glass. This stuff works great on tub/shower enclosures, it'll make your life easier than trying to get rid of calcium and lime that is on the surface of the glass. Use RainX on your car windows for enhanced visibility when traveling in a heavy storm.
How To Clean Glass With Razor Blades
When using a razor blade on glass, use a double edge blade. Wet the surface with glass cleaner. As you put the razor blade on the face of the glass and start to scrape, position the blade so that it is tilted on an angle and is as flat to the surface as you can. Make sure that you keep the face of the glass moist with glass cleaner.
Make sure you use the razor blade on one side. Never turn it over, it might cause you to scratch the glass. If you drop the blade or hit the edge of the razor blade against something, look at the edge of the razor blade for damage before applying to the surface of the glass again.
